The last part of the cell membrane is carbohydrates.  Carbohydrates have 2 main functions, identification, and communication. Carbohydrates in the cell membrane act like name tags, that help your body tell the difference between its own cells and foreign cells. This is very important for the immune system because it lets it know if it should attack a cell or not. The second function of carbs is to act like a binding chain. Carbohydrates on the top on the cell membrane bind with carbs on other cells and can communicate and transfer resources to each other. Overall, carbohydrates are an important part of the cell membrane because they help cells recognize each other and communicate, allowing the body to function properly and protect itself from harmful invaders.
